One theme, many worlds. Exploring resilience, from lived experience to imagined stories.

“Read My Full Story.”

So, What’s Your Favorite Genre of Music?

It’s a classic question, isn’t it? Right up there with “What’s your favorite color?” or “Are you a dog person or a cat person?” You get asked it at parties, on first dates, and during team-building exercises at work.

It seems like a simple icebreaker, but I think it’s more than that. Music is personal. It’s the soundtrack to our lives, the beat behind our best memories and the comfort during our worst days.

So when someone asked me that question recently, “What is your favorite genre of music?”, I didn’t have to think twice.

My answer? Rock ‘n’ Roll.

And I don’t just mean I like it. I mean I feel it in my bones.

But “Rock ‘n’ Roll” is a huge, sprawling thing, right? It’s not just one sound. For me, that’s the magic of it. It’s a feeling that stretches across decades and styles.

It’s the raw, unfiltered energy of a distorted guitar riff that just hits you in the chest. It’s the driving beat of the drums that makes you want to tap your steering wheel (or, let’s be honest, play a wicked air drum solo). It’s the rebellious spirit that says it’s okay to be a little loud, a little different, and completely, unapologetically yourself.

Rock ‘n’ Roll is the fuzzy warmth of a classic rock track playing on the radio on a summer day. It’s the angsty, frantic energy of a 90s alternative song that perfectly understood your teenage years. It’s the swagger and soul of pioneers like Chuck Berry and the epic, stadium-filling anthems of Queen.

It’s music that has an attitude. It’s got a story to tell, and it’s not afraid to get a little messy telling it.

More than anything, it just feels… real. Grounded. It’s the sound of people plugging in and letting loose.

But that’s just me. Now I have to turn the question back to you.

What’s your favorite genre of music?

What’s that one style that feels like it was made just for you? Drop a comment below and tell me what it is and why you love it. I’d genuinely love to know.

For me, it’s country music. I read somewhere that the music that resonates most deeply with you is that which you listened to in your youth, and that’s certainly the case for me – country music brings back memories of carefree high school nights driving fast down backroads and blasting out the speakers.

That is an awesome comment, thank you so much for sharing!
And you have absolutely nailed it with that theory about the music of your youth. It gets wired into your brain in a way that nothing else does, right?
I can so clearly picture those nights you’re talking about—windows down, speakers cranked… that feeling is universal! For me, it was probably a scruffy rock anthem instead of a country one, but the feeling is exactly the same.
That’s what’s so amazing about music. It’s a time machine. It takes you right back to those specific moments and feelings. Love that your soundtrack was country. Thanks again for sharing that memory!
